RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – Winter may be coming to a close in the Black Hills, but with spring weather comes a pet peeve for many drivers, potholes. Failing to avoid those annoying holes in the road can have costs.
According to USA Today Blueprint, South Dakota is currently ranked 29th in the country when it comes to pothole issues.
In northern states with colder temperatures, winter weather tends to eat away at roads causing the infuriating holes. Car maintenance regarding potholes is up over 50% and can cost drivers more than $450.
Auto mechanic Chaske Stewart says the volume of customers requesting suspension work tends to increase after winter storms pass.
“Usually, right after a snow or a good ice on the roads. That’s what I notice anyways, the influx of suspension work,” said Stewart.
