The game settled down in the second period, but Rockford managed to extend the lead late in the frame, as Kaiser, of all people, scored on a 5-on-3 power play to put the visitors up by two.

The Griffins had some chances to get on the board in the third period, but it was not enough, as they were shut out for just the third time this season.

The loss also ended a couple of franchise-record point streaks. Grand Rapids had points in 19 consecutive home games, with their last regulation loss at Van Andel Arena coming at the hands of the IceHogs on Jan. 12. That just happened to be the latest game in which the Griffins were held off the scoresheet.
