Second Richards Disposal lawsuit against Jackson has been dismissed [Video]

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A more than year-old legal challenge brought against Jackson by its current trash collector has been dismissed.

On Thursday, Hinds County Circuit Judge Adrienne Wooten dismissed Richard’s Disposal’s case against the city, saying, “The parties have advised the court that all the disputes subject to this appeal have been resolved.”

The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.

The news comes weeks after the city council approved a six-year, $61.3 million contract with the New Orleans-based firm. That agreement went into effect on April 1.

Richard’s filed the suit last spring after the city council refused to award the company a long-term contract. The firm later received a one-year emergency agreement, which expired on March 31.

A second suit filed by Richard’s was dismissed last week.

Richard’s filed that case to prevent Jackson from issuing new requests for proposals last November.

Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the request after being ordered to do so by the council.
