Skowhegan innovation summit encourages community skill building | Local News [Video]

SKOWHEGAN — Members of the Skowhegan community joined together to strengthen their teamwork skills at Saturday’s natural resources and tech start summit.

The event is hosted by community organization Main Street Skowhegan in partnership with Northeastern University’s Roux Institute in Portland.

Organizers say the event aims to inspire entrepreneurship and encourage teamwork.

“One of the beautiful things about the start summit program that we run is that we put teams together that might not know each other beforehand,” said Terra Dunham, Entrepreneurship Program Manager for the Roux Institute.

“When you get other great minds in the room that think differently and have different life experiences…that diversity of thought…you actually can get so much further,” Dunham added.

Teams were encouraged to creatively solve problems related to natural resources — like addressing accessibility in hiking and creating apps to help fishermen, ideas generated by two different teams at the summit — and use those solutions for business opportunities.
