The Kerala Story is scheduled to be telecasted by public broadcaster Doordarshan on Friday at 8 pm, this decision to screen the movie received major flak from the opposition parties of Congress and Kerala’s ruling CPI(M), who have now separately lodged complaints with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to stop showcasing the controversial movie. The Kerala Story made headlines last year when it was banned in some states of India by the state government flagging it as a potential instrument that could incite communal tensions.

Now, Doordarshan’s decision to screen the movie has sparked an outcry among political parties which apprehend that it could give rise to communal tensions and potentially polarise society along religious lines just ahead of the Lok Sabha election 2024, to be held in seven phases, starting from April 19.
