(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Nearly 200 Tribune Publishing Company workers are slated to be laid off in two months.
The workers will be out of jobs April 22. That’s a couple of months before Tribune Publishing will be moving out of its Freedom Center location along the Chicago River on the North Side.
According to the ChicagoTribune, the soon-to-be laid off workers primarily assemble about three million pre-printed advertising packages that are inserted in the Wednesday Tribune or are mailed to homes.
The Tribune will be produced at a printing plant in Schaumburg. Its operations are moving out of the current location to make way for the new Bally casino complex.
Laid off workers are being encouraged to apply for open positions at the Schaumburg facility, Tribune Publishing said. In a memo, the company said there are currently 51 open positions at the plant, and the deadline for submitting applications is Friday.
