Vermont women’s basketball holds off Niagara in WNIT [Video]

After a 10-day layoff following a heartbreaking loss to Maine in the America East championship, Vermont returned to the court Monday night after it earned an at-large bid into the WNIT.There wasn’t much rust from UVM sophomore guard Andjela Matic, who poured in a career-high 19 points to help the Catamounts take down Niagara 69-63.Vermont prepped for a high-octane defense from the Purple Eagles, but it still gave the Catamounts some trouble early. Niagara utilized a full-court press to turn defense into offense. The Purple Eagles scored 23 points of Vermont turnovers, which helped them grab a 48-47 lead in the fourth quarter.Fifth-year senior guard Emma Utterback turned her game up a notch in crunch time, draining a three-pointer to put Vermont back up.
