The Vols took down Creighton late Friday night to reach the regional final for the second time ever and the first time since 2010.
DETROIT — Tennessee men’s basketball took care of business against Creighton on Friday night inside Little Caesars Arena to reach the Elite 8 for just the second time in program history.
The Vols overcame the Bluejays without starting guard Santiago Vescovi, who missed the game due to illness, in a 82-75 triumph that sent Tennessee to the Midwest Regional Finals, where the team will square off against top-seeded Purdue on Sunday.
Tennessee’s lone Elite 8 appearance before the 2023-24 season was in the 2009-10 campaign, when a sixth-seeded Tennessee team overcame No. 2 Ohio State in the Sweet 16 in St. Louis. The team went on to lose a heartbreaker to No. 5 Michigan State in the Elite 8 that season, 70-69.
