Watching Your Wallet: Picking the right summer camp [Video]

(WFSB) – Summer will be here before we know it, and it’s already time to start signing your kids up for summer camp. Before you register, there are some important things you should research.

With more than 480 licensed youth camps in Connecticut, the choices can be overwhelming.

“When it comes to our children, they are the most important thing to us, so we definitely want to make sure they are in good hands,” said Kristen Johnson with BBB Serving Connecticut.

Johnson says there’s a few things you should check.

First, use Connecticut’s e-license website to check that the camp’s license is active.

Two, see if the camp is accredited by the American Camp Association.

“They have 32 different benchmarks camps have to meet in order to be accredited through them,” said Johnson.

Third, ask the camp what happens if your child is injured.

“Ask them if my child is injured or hurt, how are you set up to make sure they are ok? …
