SEATTLE — Saturday, 4/20, marks the marijuana culture’s high holiday when college students — and other weed fans — light up at 4:20 to celebrate a decades-old tradition.

420, 4:20 and 4/20 used to be an inside joke among people who enjoyed partaking in a puff of pot now and then. Now, it’s even in the Oxford English Dictionary.

With recreational pot now allowed in nearly half the states and the nation’s capital, and medical marijuana now legal in 38 states, those 4/20 celebrations are no longer secret. 

A lot of Americans say it’s high time.

According to a Gallup poll last fall, 70% of adults support legalization, the highest level yet recorded by the polling firm and more than double the roughly 30% who backed it in 2000.
