James Stefan broke a 2-2 tie with a power play goal early in the 3rd. Diego Buttazzoni added to the lead with a bad-angle goal, and then Marcus Nguyen wrapped up the decision with an empty-net goal, making a late goal by Oren Shtrom meaningless.
After it looked like the Winterhawks were going to waste a great early start after conceding the first goal, Kyle Chyzowski and Jack O’Brien scored Portland’s first two goals of the series to make it 2-1 Portland. Borya Valis tied it a minute later to complete a stretch of four goals in less than two minutes, setting the stage for Portland’s fireworks in the 3rd.
