Work zone, parking restrictions set to begin Feb. 26 to convert section of downtown street to 2-way traffic [Video]

PEORIA (25News Now) – Construction work zones and traffic control will appear on Southwest Adams Street between Walnut and Fulton streets in preparation for converting that section of SW Adams into a two-way street – beginning February 26.

Parking restrictions will also be clearly marked on the south side of SW Adams. Meters will have no parking bags on them, according to the City of Peoria.

More parking and lane restrictions will take place as the project progresses.

Construction is scheduled to begin March 4.

Work will start with the intersection of North William Kumpf Boulevard and Southwest Adams Street.

The city says the $18.9 million project will take 2.5 years, slated to be completed in the summer of 2026.

The work will include new corner bump-outs to shorten pedestrian crossings, adding bike lanes, upgrading traffic signals and mill and overlays of the existing pavement.
