Bryan school district begins planning for 2024-25 budget [Video]

Bryan school district administrators are beginning to plan the district’s 2024-25 budget as Bryan school board members saw an overview of where the district is at during a Monday workshop meeting.

Kevin Beesaw, Bryan’s assistant superintendent of business services, gave the school board a three-year overview to explain how the district is in its current position in regard to its budget. Texas public school districts have dealt with tight finances in recent years because they have not received additional state funding on a per-student basis from the state Legislature since 2019.

In 2022-23, Bryan adopted a deficit budget of around $4.56 million due to rapid inflation and no new revenue from the state. When the Legislature convened in January 2023, there was around $4.5 billion available for public education, but no additional state dollars were signed off by Gov.
